Our weather in Chicago has been relatively mild but soon the cold is coming!
There are a few easy things you can do to reduce the probability of a claim in your house this winter as well as being safe for you and your family.
+ Check your heating ducts to make sure they are free of debris and properly insulated.
+ Check under the sinks to make sure there isn't a draft that can freeze your pipes this winter.
+ Before lighting up your fireplace, homeowners should have the chimney inspected for animals, debris and leaves that may have fallen in.
+ We recommend you test all smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors and install new batteries. We recommend replacing any smoke and/or carbon monoxide detectors at least every 5-7 years.
+ Gutters should be cleaned to prevent rainwater from backing up a frezzing which causes the gutter to expand and crack.
+ Drain and disconnect all outside hoses from the faucets.
+ Have an emergency kit ready in case of a severe winter storm. Your kit shouldinclude, flashlights, candles and matches, a first aid kit, bottled water, canned/non perishable food, and battery powered radio
